Flash Forward Festival Returns To Boston

From June 7th to June 10th of this year, the Fairmont Battery Wharf hotel will again play host to The Magenta Foundation’s annual Flash Forward Festival, a celebration of international works of photography from emerging artists. Following its 2011 debut, this year’s festival now includes gallery shows and public art installations in the Boston Waterfront and beyond.

Visitors will have the opportunity to network with important industry personalities, artists, content developers and patrons, as well as to enjoy public art while learning how to achieve commercial success as a photographer.  Whether you are a novice or established photographer, a professional in the art world, or simply a lover of photography, this festival experience is not to be missed.

This four-day event also kicks off exhibitions on the Harborwalk and Rose Kennedy Greenway, to continue through the summer. Wounded Warrior Project Fundraiser – Lucia’s Restaurant Jan. 19

Lucia's Restaurant in the North End will be having a fundraiser for the Wounded Warrior Project, Jan. 19.Lucia’s Restaurant, in the heart of Boston’s old North End, is hosting the “Wounded Warrior Project Fundraiser” on January 19, 2012 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The intent is to raise $15,000 for wounded soldiers returning from the front lines. Of equal importance, is to highlight the sacrifices made by those in military service.

Part of the fundraising event is a raffle for items including a signed Bruins jersey, signed Bruins hockey stick and a pair of tickets to a home game of the NHL Boston Bruins. Tickets for the raffle are already on sale at Mangia, Mangia restaurant and at the Hanover News. A silent auction is also planned. Appetizers are provided by Lucia’s Restaurant.

The authentic Italian eatery is within walking distance of some of Boston’s most treasured landmarks. One is the Paul Revere House, dating back to 1680 and home to that famed rider of the same name. Another is Old North Church, otherwise called Christ Church, built in 1723 and from which two strategically placed lanterns are credited with officially starting the American Revolution. It is the oldest Boston church still standing.

This historic part of the city is also home to some luxury Boston real estate. Within walking distance of Lucia’s is the brick and glass façade of Lincoln Wharf, a high-end 119-unit condominium offering luxurious surroundings and stunning waterfront views. Also nearby is Battery Wharf, offering one, two and three-bedroom condominiums on a coveted stretch of Boston waterfront real estate. The complex shares the wharf-side space with the Exhale Mind Body Spa, the upscale Aragosta Bistro and the Fairmont Battery Wharf Hotel.

Boston’s Old North End is also a draw for outdoor enthusiasts. Paul Revere Mall is in the center of the neighborhood and features an equestrian statue of the revolutionary, along with plaques dedicated to other Bostonians involved in the struggle. On the southern end, near even more examples of Boston luxury condos, is Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park, opened in 1976 to celebrate the bi-centennial. It is the perfect place for an impromptu picnic or a stroll along the Harborwalk.

No boat? No problem!

Boston Sailing in the Boston Harbor near the city's luxury real estateJust because you are not a sailboat owner does not mean that you cannot enjoy a beautiful day sailing along Boston Harbor.

At Lewis Wharf there is the Boston Sailing Center, open from 9AM until sunset from May through October, where you can choose from their large fleet of boats. At Boston Sailing Center you can enjoy sailing along Boston’s historic Waterfront, or even take overnight trips to Martha’s Vineyard, Provincetown and Newport.

Located at Rowes Wharf, The Boston Harbor Sailing Club, offers professional sailing instruction and a fleet of sixty-seven yachts ranging from twenty-three to thirty-nine feet. This sailing club also offers memberships and makes the water’s of New England accessible and affordable to the public.

Conveniently located in Boston’s Navy Yard at Flagship Wharf, The Courageous Sailing Center offers a wide array of sailing classes and memberships to the public. These three great locations along the Waterfront make the thrill of sailing available for anyone up to the challenge.

Some locations also offer an opportunity to sharpen your sailing skills in the off season, like “Frostbite Racing” Boston Sailing Center offers from November through March.

It’s a Dog’s Life…

Written by Diane Giacobbi

Boston is not only filled with universities and students, hospitals and doctors, it is filled with dogs and their humans.  Each week I receive at least one inquiry for a sale or rental of a pet friendly property.  No longer just a suburban pet, the urban dog is welcome in many places – in certain outdoor patio dining, in private dog parks, and in some designated areas of public places.  The services for these pets are innumerable – dog boutiques for accessories and natural food items; doggie day care with transportation; daily walks; overnight vacation services, and in home veterinary calls.

Many condominium buildings along Boston’s Waterfront are pet friendly.  As a lover of dogs, I do everything in my power to find a home for my wonderful canine residents and their people.

Here is a current list of some of the pet friendly buildings in the Waterfront:

Intercontinental: Owners and TenantsBoston Dog Park

Rowes Wharf: Owners only with Management approval

Harbor Towers: Owners only

Commercial Wharf: Owners and Tenants

Lewis Wharf: No Dogs

Mariner: Owners and Tenants

Bulfinch: Owners and Tenants

Union Wharf: Owners only

Lincoln Wharf: No Dogs

Burroughs Wharf: Owners and Tenants with Restriction

Tourism Heating Up on Boston Waterfront

Boston Waterfront Tourism Heats Up. Water Taxis are the way to go these days.

These days, the best way to see Boston is by sea, not land.  With the Boston Waterfront tourism growing, it is becoming the hottest real estate to invest in.

There have been all sorts of exciting and interesting small businesses cropping up all around the Boston Harbor, from green taxis to floating vacation rentals.   Just this summer, the Rowes Wharf Water Transport partnered up with South Boston Waterfront hotel to provide zero-emission traveling to and from Logan Airport in the electric-driven boat called “Unplugged”.

For seven bucks and 10 minutes on the water, you get the perfect, stress-free ride to the airport found no where else.  Not a bad deal.  Especially for many of us who know all about the hassle of Boston Traffic or connecting with the red line to the silver line, and so forth on the MBTA rail system.

What’s even better, especially for those of us who live on the Waterfront, are the water shuttles that go back and forth to all the different wharfs.  Now we can hitch a ride to the up-and-coming Fan Pier, visit the restaurant-popular Liberty Wharf, take the Boston Lobster Tours at the Battery Wharf, check out the Innovation District, see the famous Tea Party location, and the list goes on.

Another trending waterfront attraction is the houseboat rental in the Boston Harbor.  Now folks can get a Boston Waterfront experience that’s more immersed than ever before!  Doesn’t get any better than living on the water, especially with the gorgeous Boston cityscape as your backdrop.  These houseboats are now becoming equipped with Wi-Fi internet, roof decks, and other amazing amenities.

There is no doubt about it, the Boston Waterfront is a hot zone for fun and excitement.  If you would like to read more all about it, feel free to check out this most recent Boston Globe article, “Marine Tourism Gaining Steam“.
